Team Cats Launches Furious Rally to Capture Fall WS Crown

TUCSON, Ariz.--- The unthinkable went down on Sunday afternoon out at Hi Corbett Field, as Team Cats rallied from what was a 44-point deficit heading into the day, outscoring Team Wild 66-4 in the series finale to claim the first-ever Wild vs. Cats. Fall World Series crown by the final of 123-110.
Despite Team Wild winning the first two games of the series, Team Cats claimed the series victory due to Arizona baseball's unique and aggregate style scoring based on executing fundamentals. Team Cats claimed a 7-1 win in game three based on traditional baseball scoring.
Team Cats junior starting pitcher JC Cloney set the tone on the mound, as he went 6.1 innings, while surrendering just one run on four hits, while fanning three. The Team Cats bullpen was equally impressive, as the trio of Matt Hartman, Cody Moffett, and Bobby Dalbec combined to toss 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the lead. Hartman retired all four batters he faced, while sitting down three on strikeouts.
Team Cats needed a complete team effort to get the job done and that's exactly what it got, as five of seven batter collected multiple hits, led by sophomore Jared Oliva who collected a game-high four knocks, going 4-of-6 from the dish, while scoring a game-high four runs and drawing a walk.
Senior co-captain Cody Ramer provided perhaps the most entertaining moment of the series, as he launched a solo shot to right-centerfield in the eighth frame to give Team Cats some much-needed insurance. He went 2-of-7 from the plate, while driving in and scoring a run.
First overall pick of the Wild vs. Cats Draft Cesar Salazar proved his worth in the series finale, as he went 2-of-4 from the dish, while collecting a game-high three RBI thanks to a bases-clearing double in the seventh frame.
Dalbec and Ryan Aguilar each picked up a couple of knocks as well, while each drove in a run.
Sophomore JJ Matijevic was the lone member of Team Wild to collect multiple hits, as he went 2-of-4 from the plate and scored Team Wild's lone run in the contest. Senior Zach Gibbons and junior Kyle Lewis each recorded a hit.
Junior right-hander Morgan Earman was a bright spot out of Team Wild's bullpen, as he recorded 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, while surrendering just one hit and recording a strikeout. Sophomore righty Rio Gomez also pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Sunday marks the end of Arizona's 2015 fall campaign. The Wildcats will begin the 2016 regular season on Feb. 19 at Rice in Houston, Texas. UA's home opener will come on March 2 vs. Cal State Fullerton at Hi Corbett Field.
