11/23/2015 | Volleyball
TUCSON – In her penultimate contest in McKale Center, senior Nikki Attea led Arizona to its biggest win of the year, posting a career-high 23 kills in the Wildcats' five-set victory over No. 11 UCLA. Her effort earned her the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, commissioner Larry Scott announced on Monday.
Attea, who was unable to play in Friday's match due to injury, put together her best match in an Arizona uniform on Sunday with her 23 kills vs. the Bruins. The West Virginia transfer hit .315 in the match while the rest of the team managed just a .157 hitting percentage against one of the top defenses in the conference.
In addition to her offensive triumphs, Attea also supplied four blocks, helping Arizona outblock the Bruins 12-8 in the match.
For the season, Attea averages 2.56 kills per set, third on the team. She leads all Wildcat pin players in both hitting percentage (.245) and blocks (0.87/set).
Attea and the other four seniors – Halli Amaro, MacKenzie Kleespies and Anna Panagiotokapolous – will be celebrating senior week with two matches. Arizona (18-12, 8-10 Pac-12) will conclude the regular season this week with a trip to Oregon State on Wednesday before hosting Arizona State on Friday for senior day. The Cats find out their postseason fate on Sunday at 7 p.m. MST on ESPNU.
