GREENSBORO, N.C. – Day two of the women's swimming and diving NCAA Championships is complete as Arizona finished 12th with a total score of 81 at Greensboro Aquatic Center. California now leads (383.5) followed by Georgia (299.5) and Stanford (264). Samantha Pickens and Bonnie Brandon both had success on the day.
In the 200 free, Brandon placed fifth in the B final with a time of 1:44.39 while Taylor Schick took 32nd in the prelims in 1:46.57. California's Missy Franklin took first in the event, breaking her previous NCAA record with 1:39.10.
Tjasa Oder finished 45th in the prelims of the 400 IM in a time of 4:19.83. In the 100 fly, Elizabeth Pepper placed 57th in the prelims (54.27), only five hundredths of a second behind Georgia's Courtney Peters.
In the prelims of the 100 breast, Emma Schoettmer took 25th in 1:00.44. Sara Borendame followed finishing in 31st place with 1:00.74. The last event of the day was the 800 free relay. The team of Brandon, Schick, Cameron McHugh and Pepper placed eighth with a final time of 7:03.48, improving from 13th in the prelims.
In diving, Pickens followed her NCAA title in the 1-meter from day one with an eighth place finish in the 3-meter. Her final score was 318.00, after taking third in the prelims with 369.70. Minnesota's Yu Zhou won the 3-meter with 410.25.
The last day of the NCAA Championships begins tomorrow with prelims at 8:00 a.m. PDT while finals will start at 4:00 p.m. PDT. The finals will again be aired on ESPN3.
