FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Arizona's swimming and diving squads finished up the first day of their first Big 12 conference championships with five second-place finishes, an NCAA A Cut and a new program record.Â
The Cats competed in the 200 medley relay, the 800 free relay and the women's and men's team diving events, earning silver in all but one event.
Arizona's women's 200 medley relay team secured second place and a season-best NCAA A Cut with a 1:36.16 finish in the event.Â
The men's 800 free relay team (Ralph Daleiden, Tomas Lukminas, Haakon Naughton, Lars Kuljus) set a program record for Arizona, going 6:10.62 in the event and coming in just behind ASU's team. This time puts the Cats at No. 10 in the country, and Daleiden's 1:31.48 200 free makes him the eighth-fastest swimmer in the country.Â
The women's 800 free relay team (Malia Rausch, Amalie Mortensen, Kayman Neal, Julia Wozniak) also took second in the event, securing 56 points for the Cats with their season-best 7:11.07 finish.Â
Arizona's men's 200 medley relay team (Ryan Hardy, Daniel Young, Haakon Naughton, Hunter Ingram) walked away with silver and a strong B Cut time (1:23.79). Ingram completed the anchor leg of the race with an impressive 18.84 freestyle.
Arizona's male divers (Gage DuBois, Theo Hrach and Colin Agor) secured second place in the men's team diving event, with a score of 340.55. This was the first time this season Arizona's diving squads have been scored in a team competition format.Â
