Building a Legacy with Charlotte Brascia
10/17/2016 | Soccer
Tucson, Ariz. – Charlotte Brascia, a junior forward out of Las Vegas, Nev., joined Arizona Soccer in 2014. When it came to making the decision as to where she wanted to play soccer, it was a no-brainer.
"When I visited Arizona I really liked the college town environment," said Brascia. "I wanted an experience that was all about Arizona. Everyone from Tucson goes to every Arizona event, and I really liked that."
In her freshman year, Brascia scored two goals and even got the game-winning goal against Washington State. This year, Brascia has a goal and an assist for the Wildcats and is still hungry for more. For her, the biggest difference has been her effort.
"Personally, I think that my work rate has gone up a lot," said Brascia. "From freshman year until now, you want to work harder to win more games for your teammates."
In her freshman year, Arizona won 11 matches and went to the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats improved on that last year by winning fourteen matches and progressing to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
"As a team, our goal is to combine more and pass more," said Brascia. "When I got here, we were a really direct team and now we work to build out of the back and through the middle. I think it has really helped with our success. I think that it's a product of the players that Tony [Amato] is recruiting and of his coaching direction."
This year's roster features 12 new faces, 11 freshman and a junior transfer in Brandi Park. Brascia says those players have had an impact on this year's performance.
"Those girls can do it all," said Brascia. "I think the freshmen have helped us out this year especially in our defense. Sam has stepped in and filled a good role, and Brynn has as well. Growing up and moving through these next four years, I think they will help Arizona a lot."
Like most of the players on the team, Brascia has played soccer her whole life. That's a trend she wants to continue even after college.
"If I had the opportunity to play after college I would definitely take advantage of it," said Brascia. "I'm just going to take it game by game. I still have a lot of time left in college, five games and one more season… so we'll see."
A big part of the Wildcats' success this season has been the atmosphere at home games. The Arizona Soccer team believes that their crowd has an effect on the team's performance. Brascia's take?
"When I go onto the field, I feel like the energy of having everyone screaming and yelling 'let's go Char!' really helps us out," said Brascia. "It gives me adrenaline. It pushes me to want to be able to make plays and score goals and help the team win."
Now it's your turn to Experience It Yourself at Arizona's home matches this season. You can pick up tickets at ArizonaWildcats.com or purchase tickets at the door.
The Arizona Wildcats continue their regular season this weekend in Eugene, Ore. when they play Oregon on Thursday at 4 p.m. MST.
