Arizona Scores Convincing 86-35 Victory In Exhibition Opener

The Wildcats won their first exhibition of the season over College of Idaho in dominating fashion.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Six Wildcats scored in double figures as Arizona defeated the Yotes of the College of Idaho by a score of 86-35 in the first exhibition game of the 2016-17 campaign.

The paint was Wildcat country tonight as they outscored the Yotes down low 52-8. That was clear from the get go as Arizona attacked the paint early and often as the Wildcats shot 65% from inside the arc and just 8% from downtown.

Arizona had runs of 22-0, 13-0 and 10-0 (twice) and never let the Yotes score more than six unanswered. Scoring was at a premium for the Yotes as it took 20:38 for them to crack double digits. The Arizona defense also forced 24 turnovers on 13 steals and scored 26 points off those turnovers.

In the scoring department, Kobi Simmons led the way for Arizona as he poured in 17 points off the bench on 7-11 shooting and Dusan Ristic pitched in 14 points as well on 6-10 shooting.

The performance of the night though belongs to Kadeem Allen as he was as particularly efficient on the floor tonight. He scored 11 points on 3-6 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the line. He also added eight assists, seven steals and four rebounds while committing zero turnovers. In the 25 minutes he was on the floor, the Wildcats outscored the Yotes by 44 points.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright also pitched in five assists alongside Allen's eight to give Arizona's backcourt a 13/3 assist to turnover ratio.

Lauri Markkanen, Keanu Pinder and Ristic dominated the glass for Arizona as they combined to grab 30 of Arizona's 46 rebounds. Pinder was the lone Wildcat to finish the game with a double-double as he scored 10 points and cleaned the glass for a game-leading 11 boards.

Arizona got off to a hot start as they outscored the College of Idaho 28-3 in the first 11 minutes of the first half and didn't look back. The Wildcats would go on to outscore the Yotes 50-9 in the first period while shooting 60% from the field and holding the Yotes to a 10% clip.

The second half was a bit tighter as Arizona scored just 36 points and allowed 26 points. Rawle Alkins scored seven of his 11 points in the final 20 minutes and Simmons put nine second-half points on the board.

Arizona's second and final exhibition game is just around the corner as Cal State Chico comes to town on Sunday, Nov. 6 for a 4 p.m. MST game.
