Five Sets with Jade Turner

Jade Turner's blood runs Wildcat red.
Her father, Joe, was a four year member of the Arizona Basketball team from 1984 to 1988, including the 1988 team that went 35-3 and made it to the Final Four. She also brings some international experience to the team, as she was born in New Zealand while her father was playing basketball in the country.
She attended Foothill High School in Bakersfield, Calif. Turner was a four-year letterwinner while taking home team MVP honors all four years. She was also named captain her senior year. She redshirted her freshman year at Arizona before excelling last season as a backup, as she posted a .429 hitting percentage in 24 sets played.
This year, the redshirt sophomore has posted twelve kills, including a season-high five against Kansas State (8/26). She also recorded three block assists versus Washington (10/23).
Turner sat down with ArizonaWildcats.com to chat about this season, her dad's time at Arizona and other topics:
What has been the best part about this season?
"My favorite part about this year has been us being the road warriors. Sometimes we trip over our own feet in front of a home crowd, but when we're away it's like the magic really happens."
Have you felt a special connection to Arizona Athletics considering your dad (Joe Turner) played basketball here in the 1980s?
"Oh yeah. I certainly have felt a special connection here, because when we were younger my dad would come back for alumni games. He'd always bring me with him, so I've been in love with this school from the get go."
You were born in New Zealand. Have you been back since you were born and do you have any memories of it?
"I was born there, and my parents met over there. We moved over here when I was three or four (years old). Then, my parents actually sent me back for middle school, and I lived with my grandparents. It's so beautiful over there, and it's so green. I'm planning to go back for my 21st birthday."
What excites you the most about the rest of the season?
"I'm looking forward to winning some hard fought games. I can't wait to get that spot in the (NCAA) Tournament. We're gunning for that natty (national championship)."
Do you or the team have any fun traditions?
"On the road, I'm the one in charge of the music. I bring my speaker to all of our away games and we'll have a dance session. We do it here too with the speaker system in our locker room. We have this giant dance session, and we just party and let all of the stress go so we can get ourselves in the right mindset for the game."
