Arizona Softball Reveals Sixth-Ranked Recruiting Class

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona softball inked seven of the top players in the country on National Signing Day on Wednesday, head coach Mike Candrea announced. Arizona's class has been ranked sixth nationally by FloSoftball.

The Wildcats welcome Hanah Bowen, a pitcher/third baseman from Ramona, California, Ivy Davis, an infielder from Huntington Beach, California, Taylor Gilmore, a pitcher/infielder from Broomfield, Colorado, Lexi Harrington, a catcher from Granite Bay, California, Jenna Kean, an outfielder from Los Alamitos, California, Hannah Martinez, a third baseman from Corona, California and Taryn Young, an outfielder from Anaheim Hills, California.

"This is a class that fits our needs," said head coach Mike Candrea. "There are still some question marks – I always believe that you don't know how good a recruiting class is until they're, probably, juniors. It definitely fills some voids for us. We graduate eight seniors and bring in seven. I think all of these kids have a chance of coming in and helping our program. From a physical and athletic standpoint, I'm very excited about this class."

Five players were ranked in the top 80 by Flo Softball: #44 – Jenna Kean, #48 – Ivy Davis, #53 Hanah Bowen, #77 – Lexi Harrington, #79 – Hannah Martinez.

Hanah Bowen
Pitcher/Third Base
Ramona, Calif. (Ramona H.S)

Ranked No. 53 recruit nationally by FloSoftball … Named league player and pitcher of the year … An all-CIF performer … Selected to the FloSoftball Top 100 list every year from 14u on.

Candrea says: "Hanah is a tremendous utility player who can do a lot of things well. She pitches well, is a good hitter, plays good defense and I think she has a really high softball IQ."

Hanah says: "I'm excited about my future at the University of Arizona. It's an honor to be in this position with the opportunity of becoming a Wildcat athlete and student"

Ivy Davis
Infielder
Huntington Beach, Calif. (Huntington Beach H.S.)

Forty-eighth-ranked recruit nationally (FloSoftball) First-team all-Sunset League 2014-16 … 2016 PGF National Champion with Firecrackers-Rico … Second-team all-county in 2016.

Candrea says: "Ivy is a very talented middle infielder. She's a switch hitter and can hit well from both sides. She will blossom in this program. She has great hands and great feet. I think her potential has been untapped yet, so I think a lot of it will depend on how hard she wants to work when she gets here. She's very athletic. Her brother pitched against Arizona baseball in Omaha this year."

Ivy says: "I'm excited to sign with Arizona because this has been a dream of mine since I started playing softball and it feels so amazing to watch it become a reality."

Taylor Gilmore
Pitcher/Infielder
Broomfield, Colo. (Broomfield H.S.)

First-team all-state and Front Range Pitcher of the Year in 2016 … Led her division with 22 victories, 143 innings pitched, 188 strikeouts and a 0.98 ERA … Four-year first-team all-conference performer … Pitched her team to two league championships, three regional championships and a 2016 5A state runner-up finish … Has hit 20 career home runs and hit 13 doubles, seven homers, drove in 31 runs with an .869 slugging percentage as a senior.

Candrea says: "We just recently saw Taylor. She came onto our radar a bit later but she adds to the depth of this class. She has a very good drop ball, very good change up. I'm very impressed with her athleticism. She's a strong kid and can hit. I'm very excited to have her."

Taylor says: "I'm excited to be signing with Arizona because I have always dreamed of being a Wildcat and playing at the highest level possible. Having this opportunity of being able to push myself to my full potential is one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced and I can't wait."

Lexi Harrington
Catcher
Granite Bay, Calif. (Granite Bay H.S.)

Seventy-seventh-ranked recruit nationally (FloSoftball) … First-team all-Sierra Foothill League catcher … Recipient of the Principle's Academic Merit Award with a 4.3 GPA … Finished seventh at PGF nationals with Sorcerer 18 Gold with a .714 batting average.

Candrea says: "Lexi loves to play the game and plays the game hard. She's a good hitter and a good catcher. She will definitely give us some quality depth behind the plate."

Lexi says: "I chose to be a Wildcat at the University of Arizona because I feel at home on campus, and the coaching staff is amazing. I want to be a part of the tradition of excellence that Coach Candrea and the softball program continues to build on its way to another national championship. What I plan to bring to Arizona is my love and respect for the game, and my commitment to hard work for the team. It is an honor to become a student-athlete at the U of A, and I will work to be a positive influence to those around me, on and off the field."

Jenna Keane
Outfielder
Los Alamitos, Calif. (Los Alamitos H.S.)

Candrea says: "Jenna is a quick kid. She's an Arizona prototypical short gamer. She's a good outfielder and very fast. I'm very impressed with her athleticism."

Jenna says: "There are many reasons I chose the University of Arizona to be my home for the next four years, from the social environment to the beautiful campus, and of course the amazing softball program.  All the coaches are amazing and I'm blessed to be able to better myself not only in softball, but as a person as well."

Hannah "Peanut" Martinez
Third Base
Garden Grove, Calif. (Pacifica H.S.)

Seventy-ninth ranked recruit nationally (FloSoftball) … Three-time all-league performer … A four-year varsity starter … Won the Boulder IDT Championship and finished fifth at the PGF Championship in 2016.

Candrea says: "Peanut is a very good third baseman. She had a good summer last summer and has really started to progress. Physically she's always been a really gifted player, but now she's starting to grow mentally as well. I think when she puts it all together, she's going to be a very dynamic player at this level."

Peanut says: "I couldn't pass up an opportunity to play at Arizona. I love the coaching staff and on my unofficial as a freshman I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else. I'm honored and look forward to stepping on the field as a Wildcat."
