TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona head coach
Clancy Shields announced that Alex Kuperstein signed a National Letter of Intent to join the team in the 2016-2017 season today. Kuperstein is the second five-star player that Shields has inked in under a week, and is currently ranked 14th in his home state of California according to tennisrecruiting.net.
Â
"I saw Alex a few years ago while coaching the Intermountain Zonals team," said Shields. "I was very impressed with Alex's tennis abilities, but saw a lot of unique qualities in him as a team player and someone who thrived in a team environment. It is rare today to find players who raise their level in team competitions and Alex is that guy. He did it while representing Palm Desert High School, and I believe he will do the same for us here at Arizona. We are thrilled to welcome him to our family and to watch him compete for the Wildcats." Â
Â
Kuperstein, a senior at the Andy Scorteanu Tennis Academy in Palm Springs California, is currently ranked 47th in the nation (tennisrecruting.net). Athleticism runs in Alex's family. His mother, Kathy, played basketball at Mary Washington College, and his father, Ken, played tennis at ASU.
