TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats completed the second round of the John Burns Intercollegiate Thursday in Lihue, Hawaii with a total score of 584 (+7). The Wildcats are tied with Washington for sixth place, 23 shots behind leader Texas.
Sophomore Jake Kreuz lead the Cats in day two of the competition posting a 72 in the second round to give him a overall score of 143 (-1) earning him a share of 11th place. Also tied for 10th is senior Wildcat Kolton Lapa. Lapa posted a 73 (+1) to finish the day with a score of 143 (-1). In the second round, both Lapa and Kreuz notched three birdies and an eagle to help them achieve their scores.
“I got off to a rough start,” said sophomore Jake Kreuz, “but managed to recover as the round went on. I put myself in a lot of good places off of the tee but wasn't very sharp with my irons. I think we are going to have a great final round tomorrow as a team.”
Freshman Tyler Moore and Sophomore Max Donohue both shot a 74 (+2) off three birdies each in the second round. Donohue finished the day with a total score of 151 (+7) to give him a share of 53rd place while Moore finishes the day tied for 69th place with a score of 153 (+9). Sophomore Jordan Gumberg scored a 75 (+3) in the second round and finished the day tied for 32nd with a score of 147 (+3). Competing as an individual, sophomore Peter Koo is currently tied for 53rd place with a score of 151 (+7)
“I was really proud of our team today,” said head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. “We got off to a very rough start and everyone was several over par early in the round. We made 15 bogeys in our opening nine holes and still posted +5 as a team. We took care of the Par 5s in the middle and end of the round and salvaged a score that keeps us in the mix to post a strong finish tomorrow. We talk about not letting our bad days get out of hand and we did a pretty good job competing and staying focused. Kolton and Jake are proving very reliable and it is great to see them lead the way. Jordan is also very close and I suspect he will show his best tomorrow along with our entire team.”
