Cats Poised for Big Finish at Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's golf team continued play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship in New Orleans on Monday. The Wildcats are the sole contenders in third place after a 290 (+2). This, combined with Sunday's 287 (-1), gives the team a strong launching point into Tuesday's final round.
Freshman Haley Moore was one of three team leaders today, earning a 72 (E) after notching an eagle on the 16th hole. Combined with yesterday's 74, this puts Moore tied for 28th place.
Freshman Gigi Stoll and sophomore Krystal Quihuis both notched a 72 (E) on the links today. These two also finished neck-and-neck yesterday with a 71 (-1), putting each of their individual composite scores at a 143 (-1) and giving them a share of 12th place. Junior Wanasa Zhou notched a 74 (+2) today, and with yesterday's 73 she is currently tied for 33rd place. Junior Jessica Vasilic rounded out the roster with a 78 (+6). Adding this to yesterday's 72 puts Vasilic in a tie for 48th place.
“We struggled today and didn't finish the round as strong as we needed to maintain second place,” said head women's golf coach Laura Ianello. “Tomorrow we are looking to make more birdies and move back into the lead. The team is fighting hard since a few of the players had had a flu bug. They are tough and fighting hard.”
In the individual competition, senior Lindsey Weaver is finding success. She sunk three birdies today and had no bogeys which led to a 69 (-3). That's the second-best round score in the tournament so far, and it has netted her a tie for 18th place.
Arizona is trailing Florida, who earned themselves a 281 (-7) today. They are sitting at the top of the leaderboard at seven under par.
