Northrop Grumman Recap ? Day Two
02/08/2016 | Women's Golf
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's golf team continued play at the Northrop Grumman in Palos Verdes, California, today. The Wildcats are holding in tenth place with a score of 603 (+35). Junior Wanasa Zhou topped the team again today with a 75 (+4) after 18 holes; combined with her score from yesterday (70) she is sharing 12th place. Zhou had some of the best play on the course today, holding strong at the top of the leaderboard.
Senior Lindsey Weaver also managed a 75 (+4) today. Her performance combined with yesterday's puts her in a share for the 41st position. Freshman Haley Moore hung tough today, earning a 76 (+5) on the links. She is just behind her teammates, tied for 44th. Junior Jessica Vasilic notched a 77 (+6) today. She moved up fourteen spots to a portion of 60th place. Sophomore Krystal Quihuis earned a 78 (+7) after the round, and combined with last round's score she is the lone contender in 47th place.
“We did not move in the direction we needed to,” said coach Laura Ianello. “Tomorrow our goals are simple and to play smarter golf. We have to eliminate the mental errors.”
As Ianello predicted before the tournament, the Palos Verdes course has been difficult to navigate and many teams are struggling with play. Evidence of that shows on the leaderboard, with only four girls under par. The leaders, Alabama and Washington, are five over par. This tournament is proving to be a challenge for all of the participants, not just the Arizona Wildcats.
