Cats Fall to Ninth-Ranked James Madison, 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 9 James Madison plated four unearned runs in the top of the first inning, paving the way for a 6-1 victory over No. 18 Arizona on Wednesday evening at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Arizona (15-8) managed just a single run against JMU starter Megan Good (11-1), but had plenty of opportunities against the hard-throwing righty, stranding eight runners in the contest. Good went the distance and allowed the single run on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Danielle O'Toole (9-4) countered with five innings and allowed six runs, just two of which were earned. The redshirt junior struck out six with just one walk. Michelle Floyd pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

In the top of the first, an error extended the inning for the Dukes, who put together three straight two-out hits to plate four unearned runs against Danielle O'Toole.

Arizona seemed poised to respond in the bottom of the first when it loaded the bases with just one out. Good got out of the jam.

The two pitchers engaged in a pitcher's duel until Morgan Tolle hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give JMU (18-1) a 6-0 lead.

Arizona got on the board with a solo homer from Tamara Statman in the sixth, her third of the year.
