TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's golf team completed play at the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course on Sunday in Tempe. The Wildcats captured fourth place after the final round of play. The team carded a collective 875 (+11) on the overall tournament.
Sophomore Krystal Quihuis led the team by notching a 71 (-1). In conjunction with her previous rounds of 73 and 74, she managed to capture a share of ninth place.
Senior Lindsey Weaver earned herself a 74 (+2) on the day. Her previous scores were 70 and 74, so she finished with Quihuis and tied for ninth place as well. Junior Jessica Vasilic's play gave her a 76 (+4) on the day. She tied for 17th place after her rounds of 73 and 71 in the last two days. Freshman Gigi Stoll finished with a 76 (+4). Combined with her 73 and 72 from prior rounds, this puts her in a tie for 22nd place. Freshman Haley Moore finished with a 75 (+3) today. This, combined with her last two days of 72 and 74, gives Moore a share of 22nd place.
“The ladies struggled this week but fought hard in the tough conditions today,” said head coach Laura Ianello. We have some work to do this week before we leave for conference. Krystal led the day with a one-under par in some tough conditions.”
In the individual competition, junior Wanasa Zhou carded a 75 (+3) after 18 holes. This result combined with her 79 and 84 from the first two rounds gives her a share of 73rd place.
This is Quihuis' third top-twenty finish in her last three stroke-play tournaments. Having tied for 15th and in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate and winning the Wildcat Invitational, she has been hot since returning to the links this season. Expect this to give her a lot of momentum coming in to the Pac-12 Championships next week. She was accompanied by Weaver, who also finished tied for ninth. This is also Weaver's third top-twenty finish in her last three stroke-play tournaments, and as a senior she has already two years of experience at the Pac-12 Championships, both times taking second place. Expect to see her use this momentum and experience in the coming tournament.
