Cats Finish Day Two at the Western Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz.– The University of Arizona men's golf team competed at the second day of the Western Intercollegiate. The team shot 17-over in the second round to give them a score of 737 (+37), moving them up one spot in the team competition to 11th.
Leading the Cats in day two was freshman Martin Larrea, who went two under in the round on a pair of birdies and an eagle. The freshman from Spain moved up 19 spots to sit in a tie for 40th place with a score of 144 (+4) with 18 holes of golf remaining.
“Our team played better today in more difficult scoring conditions,” said head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. “We got a great round from Martin Larrea which is very encouraging as he learns to score on the road. The team kept multiple big numbers from our scorecard so that is an improvement. With that said, we know we need to get rid of all of them if we want to compete in fields this strong. Our goal tomorrow will be continue getting better and hopefully we can get four or five guys off to a strong start.”
Senior Kolton Lapa notched four birdies in the second day of play to give him a score of 74 (+4). Lapa is currently in a tie for 30th place with a score of 143 (+3). Redshirt sophomore Jake Kreuz shot a 73 (+3) in day two of the competition. The redshirt sophomore finishes the day tied for 56th place with a score of 147 (+7).
Freshman Tyler Moore and sophomore Peter Koo both shot a 75 (+5) in the second round. The two both carded a pair of birdies in the round. Moore ends the day tied for 68th with a score of 151 (+11), while Koo sits tied for 72nd with a score of 153 (+13). Sophomore Jordan Gumberg shot eleven over in the second round to tie him for 84th with a score of 158 (+18).
