TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's golf team completed play at the Pac-12 Championships at the Ruby Hill Golf Club on Wednesday in Pleasanton, California. After the final round, the Wildcats captured a 290 (+2). With prior rounds of 286 and 280, this puts the team in fourth place at eight-under par.
After earning a 69 (-3) yesterday, sophomore Krystal Quihuis notched another 69 (-3) in the final round. These two scores, combined with her 72 (E) from the first round, give Quihuis a share of fifth place. Freshman Haley Moore paced herself again today, earning a 73 (+1). In conjunction with her 66 and 72, she managed to take ninth place.
“The ladies played with all of their hearts,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “But today we couldn't get things to go our way. This is a great learning experience for our underclassmen. We will learn from this and push on to regionals and nationals.”
Junior Jessica Vasilic earned a 73 (+1) and took a share of 20th place. This is also a result of her 74 and 70 from the previous two days. Senior Lindsey Weaver finished with a 75 (+3) to earn the tie for 32nd place based on her scores of 74 and 72 from the last rounds. Freshman Gigi Stoll rounded out the team with a 77 (+5), and combined with her 74 and 69 from rounds one and two she captured a share of 27th place.
Moore's ninth place finish is her second top-ten finish in the year, capping off conference play for her rookie year. Moore managed to string together three consecutive birdies on the front nine, and she closed off her round with two more consecutive birdies. She notched 15 birdies over the course of the tournament, second-most behind tournament champion Linnea Strom.
Quihuis posted two rounds of 69 (-3) in the tournament, coming in the second and third rounds. She completed the tournament with only one of five eagles in the competition and managed to capture the title for best scoring on par-fours, averaging a 3.87.
