Gibbons and Ramer Selected to All-Region Team

Tucson, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats placed two players on the ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region First-Team, it was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors Zach Gibbons and Cody Ramer were both selected to the all-region team after standout seasons. Ramer was selected as the team's second baseman, while Gibbons was one of three outfielders chosen for the team.
Gibbons and Ramer, who helped lead the Wildcats to their 17th College World Series appearance, which kicks off Saturday, were the two leading hitters for Arizona this season.
Gibbons has posted a .381 batting average in 63 games so far this season and has 94 hits to his credit. The senior has scored 39 runs, posted 12 doubles and a triple and has driven in 39 runs. He's also stolen nine bases. He currently has 278 career hits, which is the fifth-most in program history. Gibbons has 27 multi-hit games on the season and earlier in the year reached base safely in 48 straight games.
Ramer, who has been the team's leadoff hitter nearly the entire season, has been one of the primary catalysts for Arizona's offense. The senior from Simi Valley, California, is hitting .352 this season and leads the Pac-12 in runs scored (57) and triples (eight). Ramer also pounded out 16 doubles, two home runs 39 RBI and eight stolen bases. Ramer has started all 65 games for Arizona this season.
Gibbons and Ramer's selections mark the first time Arizona has played multiple selections on the All-Region first-team in back-to-back years since 2011 and 2012. In 2011, Cole Frenzel and Robert Refsnyder were selected to the first-team and Kurt Heyer and Alex Mejia followed a year later. Last season, Bobby Dalbec, Scott Kingery and Kevin Newman were all first-team selections.
Gibbons and Ramer were both drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last week in the Major League Baseball Draft. Gibbons was a 17th-round selection and Ramer went two rounds later in the 19th.
The two seniors and the Cats will travel to Omaha on Thursday, before opening College World Series play on Saturday versus Miami. Game time is set for 5 p.m., MST on ESPN2.
