Khalil Tate Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona sophomore quarterback Khalil Tate was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office. Tate's record-breaking performance last Saturday propelled the Wildcats to a 45-42 victory on the road at Colorado.

In his first extended action of the season, Tate totaled 481 yards of offense and five touchdowns. He scored four touchdowns as part of a 327-yard rushing output, which set a new NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback. He also completed 12-of-13 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, becoming only the second FBS player ever to rush for 300 yards and throw for 150 yards in the same game.

The native of Inglewood, Calif., etched his name into several school record charts as well. The 327 rushing yards ranked second-most in single game history, while the 481 total yards ranks fifth-most in program history. He averaged 18.02 yards per play (rush and pass attempts combined), which is a new top mark for players with a minimum 20 attempts in a contest. His pass efficiency rating for the game was 217.02, the highest for a Wildcat quarterback since 2007.

Tate is the first Arizona player to be named a conference player of the week since place kicker Casey Skowron was named the special teams player of the week in 2015. Receiver Cayleb Jones (2014) is the most recent Wildcat to garner offensive player of the week recognition.

In addition the his conference honor, Tate received national accolades from several outlets, including the Walter Camp Football Foundation, which named the 18-year old its national offensive player of the week. He was also cited as a national player of the week by Athlon and College Football Performance Awards. Additionally, he is listed as a Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 honoree and the Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Arizona's victory on Saturday improved its record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-12 Conference. The South Division remains wide open entering the midway point of the regular season as all six teams have at least one loss.
