SAN FRANCISCO – For the second time in his freshman season, Arizona forward Lauri Markkanen has been named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week. The most recent accolade came after the Wildcats' road sweep of the Washington schools in which Markkanen averaged 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 92.3 percent at the free throw line.

The native of Finland opened the week with 19 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists, a block and a steal in his team's 78-59 win over Washington State. Markkanen set a new season high with six offensive rebounds in the victory at WSU, posting his fourth double-double of the season.

He followed his showing in Pullman up with 26 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in an eight-point victory in Seattle. The win over the Huskies marked the freshman's first-ever 20-point, 10-rebound performance. Markkanen reset his season high in offensive rebounds with seven against UW after setting it two days earlier. It also marked the first time the 7-footer has tallied back-to-back double-doubles.

Markkanen is one of only two freshmen in the nation to lead a team in points per game, rebounds per game and three-point field goal percentage. The forward is approaching the top ten in freshmen scoring in program history with three regular season games remaining. Markkanen is already in the top five in UA freshmen history in three-point field goal percentage and made three-point field goals in a season.

The freshman won his first weekly conference honor in the third week of January after averaging 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 63.6 percent of his shots from the field in a road sweep in Los Angeles. He also becomes the first Wildcat since Stanley Johnson in 2014-15 to win two conference player of the week awards in the same season.
