INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Women's swimming and diving rounded out day 2 of the NCAA Championships in 14th with a score of 47.5. Stanford's lead has grown (213) while California sits in second (136) followed by Texas (119).
The team of
Katrina Konopka,
Annie Ochitwa,
Morgan Ginnis and
Taylor Garcia highlighted the day with a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:27.39), improving from seventh in the prelims. All four earned All-America honors from finishing in the top eight of the finals.
Laura Kurki also earns the honor after swimming in the prelims.
Konopka led Arizona as the only individual to swim in the finals tonight. The sophomore tied for fifth in the B final of the 50 free with a time of 21.99, notching All-America Honorable Mention honors. She was two-hundredths of a second away from swimming in the finals of the event. Including the two relay events, Konopka has an All-America honor and two Honorable Mention honors from day 2.
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Garcia,
Kennedy Lohman, Ochitwa and Konopka finished fifth in the B final with 3:30.86, each earning Honorable Mention honors. The same team will return in the 200 medley relay.
In her first NCAA Championships, freshman
Hannah Cox took 19th in the prelims of the 500 free with 4:40.33. Freshman
Kirsten Jacobsen finished 35th (4:42.54) while junior
Tjasa Oder placed 40th (4:42.94).
Senior
Sally Hackett then finished 44th in the 1-meter with a score of 239.80.
In the prelims of the 200 IM, sophomore
Mackenzie Rumrill took 63rd with 2:02.30.
