TUCSON, Ariz. – Redshirt sophomore decathlete Dion Shattuck-Baker wrapped up day two of the Jim Click Shootout with a second-place finish in the decathlon with 6,699 points.
Shattuck-Baker started the day in the 110-meter hurdles where he won his heat with a time of 15.34 seconds. Next Shattuck-Baker would post a mark of 37 meters (121' 4.5") in the discus followed by a second-place mark of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25") in the pole vault. He would go on to finish in second in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:50.85 to total 6,699 points overall.
"It felt good out there," Shattuck-Baker said. "After coming here last season and having a season-ending injury I am really happy to have completed the decathlon today. It wasn't the best score by any means, but I definitely saw the path to improvement and was proud of a select few of my events."
Tomorrow the Cats will be in full force with events starting at 9 am. PST.
