GymCat Alumni TBT: Jessie Sisler

Name: Jessie Sisler
Years competed: 4 (2012-2016)
Year graduated: May 2017

What did you accomplish at Arizona and as a GymCat?
I earned my Bachelor's degree with a major in Physiology and a minor in Business. Throughout my career as a student-athlete, I was recognized for both First and Second Team PAC-12 All-Academic Honors. As a GymCat, I was PAC-12 Floor Champion in 2015, and earned the University of Arizona Female Student Athlete of the Year my Freshmen and Junior years. Our team was also recognized for the Arizona Athletics Community Service Award all four years.

What have you been up to since graduation?
I graduated this past May and I will now be starting a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Texas Tech University Health Science Center.

How do you feel Arizona helped you grow as a person?
I think Arizona has really helped me grow in all aspects. The demands of being a student-athlete taught me about time management, balance, communication, hard work and being able to keep my priorities straight. My experience here has also given me a chance to explore the things I like, become more independent, make life-long friendships, and meet people from all over the world.

Are you still involved in gymnastics?
No, currently not at this time.

What do you miss most about the University of Arizona?
I just recently graduated but I know I am going to miss the people, our beautiful campus and the perfect weather we are spoiled with in Tucson.

What about Arizona stood out to you when being recruited?
When I was being recruited I was drawn to the campus and the weather, it's pretty hard to beat. I also loved the team atmosphere I felt when I visited and how connected the entire athletic program was.

What do you miss most about being a student-athlete?
I miss being a part of a team! Especially getting to train and travel with my best friends, and hang out with them pretty much 24/7.

What are some of your favorite memories at Arizona and with the GymCats?
All of the family dinners that we would have as a team, and competing alongside my teammates.

What advice would you give to current GymCat athletes?
My advice would be to really give it your all during your time as an athlete and to enjoy the whole experience. Four years goes by fast and there is nothing quite like being a part of college athletics, so work hard in and out of the gym, but have fun and cherish the time you have at Arizona.

Anything else you would like to share about your time at Arizona?
From being a student-athlete at Arizona, I have had some of the greatest experiences, gained life-lessons, and formed life-long friendships. I am so thankful for the time I have spent at Arizona and for the opportunity I had to be a GymCat. It really is a once in a lifetime experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
