TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona swimming and diving's Kevin Cordes and Matt Grevers are set to compete in the 17th FINA World Championships. The swimming events will take place July 23-30 in Budapest, Hungary.

Olympic gold medal winners, Cordes, an eight-time national champion at Arizona (2012-15), and Grevers, Arizona's volunteer assistant coach, will compete for Team USA in Hungary.

Cordes will swim the 50/100/200m breaststroke while Grevers will swim the 50/100m backstroke. A schedule of their events is listed below.

Both Cordes and Grevers qualified for national championships at the Phillips 66 National Championship earlier this month in Indianapolis. Cordes took first in the 200m breaststroke, just missing a world record with a time of 2:07.71. Grevers won the 100m backstroke title with a time of 52.71.

At the 16th FINA World Championships in 2015, Grevers took home a silver medal in the 50m backstroke (24.61) and bronze in the 100m backstroke (52.66) while Cordes took home gold as a part of the 4x100m medley relay team, silver in the 200m breastroke (2:08.05), bronze in the 50m breastroke (26.86).

The Wildcats had a trio of divers compete in the FINA World Championships. Postgrad Rafael Quintero (Puerto Rico), and incoming freshmen Delaney Schnell (USA) and Samantha Jimenez Santos (Mexico) just completed their competition on the platform and the springboards. UA head diving coach Omar Ojeda accompanied the three Wildcat divers in Hungary.

Also in Hungary will be Daniel Ramirez, a postgrad who trains at Hillenbrand Acquatic Center. Ramirez will swim the 100m freestyle for Mexico.

Cory Chitwood, an Arizona graduate and a recently announced member of new head coach Augie Busch's Wildcat staff, will be on the pool deck as a member of Team USA's coaching staff.
