ELVERSON, Pa. – For the second time in two weeks, a member of the University of Arizona Men's Golf program has qualified for the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Dylan Stein, a junior from Flemington, N.J., won the two-round qualifier at Stonewall Links in eastern Pennsylvania. Stein beat the field with a 2-under 138 as one of only three players in the field to shoot under par.
After shooting an even-par 70 on the first day, the junior sunk a trio of birdies in a six-hole span in the second round to earn the first-place finish outright. Stein tallied a total of seven birdies during qualifying.
He will head to the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship on Aug. 14 at the Riviera Country Club in Southern California where he will play alongside an Arizona teammate. Sophomore
David Laskin finished tied for first in qualifying play for the same event in California earlier this month.
Stein finished his sophomore campaign on a high note with a 54-hole low career score of 218 at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Oregon in late March.Â
