Arizona Welcomes Utah for a Nationally Televised Competition

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 21 Arizona GymCats head into week four of NCAA gymnastics ready to take on No. 3 Utah at home on Friday evening. The Cats will host the Utes at 6 p.m. in McKale Center on Jan. 26 for their third annual "Daddy/Daughter" meet.
"We are looking forward to our 4th meet of the season," said head coach John Court. "Each week we have shown some excellent performances and want do that across all 24 routines on Friday. The crowds have been electric and we are hoping for another large turnout in McKale."
Last Week:
On Saturday, Jan. 20 Arizona welcomed No. 4 UCLA to McKale Center. The Cats posted a new season high score of 195.750, and 14 out of 23 routines hit a score of 9.800 or higher. Unfortunately Arizona's score wasn't enough to combat UCLA's final score of 197.300, but the Cats left McKale Center with their heads held high after eight out of ten competing gymnasts set at least one new season high on their respect events.
Coming Up:
Next week on Feb. 4 the Cats will travel for the second time this season, this time heading to Berkeley, Calif. to compete against Cal at 3 p.m. Last year when the Bears traveled to Tucson to compete against the Cats, Arizona upset (then-ranked No. 15) Cal with a final score of 196.100 to 195.325.
After Cal, the GymCats will host their "Pink Meet" at home on Feb. 11 against Stanford. The meet will also recognize Arizona's three seniors, Madison Cindric, Victoria Ortiz, and Kennady Schneider.
All-Around Competitors:
On Saturday, Jan. 20 sophomore Maddi Leydin competed in the all-around competition for the first time in her collegiate career. She posted an all-around score of 39.200, earning a 9.750 on vault, 9.800 on bars, 9.825 on beam, and 9.825 on floor. This led Leydin to earn new career high's on two of her four events (bars and beam).
Senior Madison Cindric also competed in the all-around competition for the third week in a row. She tied her season high of 39.250 (previously set at home against Denver), and scored a 9.675 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.875 on beam, and a 9.825 on floor.
Injuries:
Sophomore Jenny Leung is currently on the sideline after injuring her ankle during warm-ups while at Iowa State. She is expected to return to the lineup in 3-4 weeks.
