MESA, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats opened up their two-game fall exhibition schedule Sunday at Sloan Park with a 22-inning affair against Cal State Fullerton. The Wildcats and Titans played 11 innings before taking a 30-minute break and playing 11 more.
The Cats won the first 11 innings, 12-9 and the second 11 frames, 5-4. All total, Arizona outlasted Cal State Fullerton 17-13.
Playing for the first time in an official capacity for the Wildcats, several freshmen had standout performances, especially on offense. Outfielder Ryan Holgate, a Davis, California native, went 2 for 6 total with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI. Catcher Austin Wells went 4 for 6 with three runs scored, three RBI, a double and a walk, while catching 11 innings.
Freshman first baseman/outfielder Brandon Boissiere also had a four-hit game, going 4 for 8 with two runs, three RBI and two RBI, while freshman infielder Dayton Dooney collected three hits, including a two-run home run in the second 11 innings. Combined, the quartet of freshmen went 13-27 with three home runs, while driving in 12 of the team's 17 runs. Kobe Kato also had a multiple-hit game, going 2 for 2 with a double.
The Cats also got some strong performances from their three junior hitters.
Cameron Cannon was 2 for 5 with two RBI and a walk, while
Nick Quintana was 1 for 4 with two walks, two runs and a double.
Matt Fraizer added a double and a walk in the win.
While the newcomers led the way offensively, Arizona had several strong pitching performances from returning hurlers.
Randy Labaut, who dazzled last season as a sophomore, tossed two scoreless innings, picking up a strikeout. Junior
Preston Price, who earned Arizona Baseball Summer Pitcher of the Year honors, also tossed two shutout innings, while totaling a strikeout.

Jonathan Guardado tossed two shutout innings, while striking out three. Sophomore
Zach Sherman closed out the game with a scoreless frame in the 22
nd inning. He pitched a perfect inning, picking up a strikeout. Senior
Avery Weems was also strong over three innings, allowing just one run and striking out one.
Junior college transfers Nate Brown and Andrew Nardi totaled seven strikeouts over four innings, allowing a pair of earned runs. Freshman Randy Abshier gave up one run over two innings, while punching out two.
Arizona will finish out its fall exhibition schedule at home on Nov. 10 with a 24-inning game against BYU. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
