OFF THE TOP
  • The Arizona Wildcats welcome Cal Poly to McKale Center on Sunday afternoon for their second regular season game of the year. Arizona topped Houston Baptist on Wednesday, 90-60 to start 1-0. Cal Poly beat Menlo College 82-75 to open its season Wednesday.
  • Arizona improved to 10-0 in season openers under coach Sean Miller with Wednesday's win. It was the third time in 10 openers Arizona reached the 90-point mark. The Wildcats have won 48 straight non-conference home games and are 83-3 in their last 86 home games overall.
  • Sophomore guard Brandon Randolph scored a career-high 25 points against Houston Baptist, besting his previous high of 17 set last season against Purdue. Randolph's eight made field goals were also a career high, as were his seven made free throws.
  • Arizona grabbed 50 rebounds Wednesday against Houston Baptist, marking the team's first 50-rebound game since March 4, 2017 at Arizona State.
  • Arizona made 28 free throws in Wednesday's win, which is tied for the most in a season opener under coach Sean Miller. Arizona went 28 for 32 in last year's 101-67 win over Northern Arizona. The Wildcats attempted 36 free throws, which also tied for the most in an opener under Miller.
  • Redshirt junior center Chase Jeter scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds in his first official game with Arizona. Jeter played two seasons at Duke and tied his career high as a Blue Devil on Wednesday night with the 11 points. Jeter also had 11 points versus Marist in 2016. His 10 rebounds established a new career high, and he notched the first double-double of his career.???????
  • Redshirt junior guard Dylan Smith finished with nine rebounds Wednesday, establishing a new high for his Arizona career. Smith had four rebounds twice last year, which stood as his previous high. Smith's career high came in 2016, while at UNC Asheville, when he had 10 at Coastal Carolina.
THE LAST TIME
Arizona opened its 2013-14 season with an 11-point win over Cal Poly, 73-62. The Wildcats had six players score in double figures, led by Aaron Gordon, who had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Arizona also got 12 points from Gabe York and 11 points each from Brandon Ashley, Nick Johnson and Kaleb Tarczewski. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 11 points in 19 minutes. Arizona shot 57 percent from the floor and outrebounded Cal Poly 34-26. Although T.J. McConnell didn't finish in double figures, he led Arizona with six assists in a team-high 34 minutes. The Wildcats led by just three points at halftime, but outscored Cal Poly by eight in the second half. The Cats outscored the Mustangs 36-16 in the paint and 21-11 in bench points. Arizona went on to go 33-5 on the season and advance to the Elite 8. The Cats won their first 21 games of the season.

RANDOLPH SHINES IN OPENER
Sophomore Brandon started his sophomore season in style on Wednesday against Houston Baptist. Randolph led Arizona in scoring with 25 points in 31 minutes. He was 8 for 12 from the floor and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Randolph led Arizona in scoring for the second time in his career and eclipsed his previous career high of 17 set last season against Purdue. The Wildcats were plus-23 with him on the court, which was the second-best mark on the team behind freshman Brandon Williams, who was plus-25. Randolph also set a new career high with four rebounds. Including the two exhibition games this season, Randolph has scored at least 19 points in each of the three games. He's also 11 for 15 from 3-point range in the three games. Randolph played in 32 games last season with four starts, averaging 11.6 minutes per game. He's also won back-to-back Red-Blue Game Slam Dunk Contests.

JETER POSTS DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Chase Jeter arrived at Arizona prior to the 2017-18 season after transferring from Duke, but had to sit out the season per NCAA rules. He made his official debut against Houston Baptist on Wednesday and shined at the center position. Jeter  played 20 minutes and scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jeter was an efficient 4 for 5 from the floor and 3 for 5 from the free throw line. It's the second straight year an Arizona player has had a double-double in his debut. Deandre Ayton had 19 points and 12 rebounds against Northern Arizona in his first game with the Wildcats last season. Jeter had a big hand in Arizona scoring 42 points in the paint and the Wildcats outrebounding Houston Baptist, 50-39. Jeter was a McDonald's All-American in 2015 out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

48 STRAIGHT
Arizona's win over Houston Baptist on Wednesday marked 48 straight non-conference home wins for the Wildcats. Arizona's last non-conference home loss came in 2011 to San Diego State when the Aztecs outlasted Arizona 61-57. A little more than a week later, Arizona beat Northern Arizona 53-39 and hasn't looked back since. Arizona beat Clemson, Oakland and Bryant in non-conference play to close out pre-conference play in 2011. Included in the 48-game streak is Cal Poly, who fell to Arizona 73-62 on November 8, 2013 at McKale Center. The Wildcats went 7-0 in home non-conference games last season, notching wins over Northern Arizona, NCAA Tournament darlings UMBC, CSU Bakersfield, Long Beach State, Alabama, North Dakota State and Connecticut.
