Senior Spotlight: Victoria Svorinic Q&A
11/21/2018 | Volleyball
It's Senior Week for Arizona volleyball, which will celebrate the careers of Kendra Dahlke, Mackenzie Hernandez and Victoria Svorinic on Wednesday prior to the match vs. California at 4 p.m. MST. The 2018 senior class will go down as one of the most successful in school history, with three seasons of at least 19 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances with a potential for a third (to be determined this week) and 70 total wins entering Wednesday's match. The three seniors sat down with ArizonaWildcats.com to discuss their time at Arizona and what their hopes and plans are for post-graduation in a Q&A to be released this week during senior week.
Monday, Nov. 19: Kendra Dahlke
Tuesday, Nov. 20: Mackenzie Hernandez
Wednesday, Nov. 21: Victoria Svorinic
Some people are just born to be Wildcats.
"I've had grandparents go to Arizona, both my parents went here and I've had aunts and uncles go here," said Svorinic. "It's always been a big part of my life."
When it came time to go to college, the decision was a simple one for the Scottsdale native. Continue the family Bear Down legacy while competing in the nation's most storied volleyball conference? Absolutely.
Svorinic and Kendra Dahlke, who came in with a class of eight four years ago, are the only two remaining four years later. The two, who began their college life as each other's first roommates in the summer of 2015, will be honored together on senior day.
"We've played with so many great people," said Svorinic. "It's been fun to be able to do it with Kendra. Every single group we've had it's been a pleasure to be able to play with them all four years."
Svorinic's energy and positivity on a daily basis are infectious and have a noticeable impact on her teammates, the coaching staff and the support staff that works with the team.
"Victoria's personality has really made a difference on our team," said Arizona head coach Dave Rubio. "She has such a positive outlook on life and she brings that positivity to each practice and each match. She's developed into a terrific player. She's an excellent server and can defend in serve receive. Her contributions have really been felt both on and off the court. I'm really proud of Victoria. She has strong ties to the Tucson community; both her mom and her dad went to U of A and grew up in Tucson, so to have their daughter be a part of our team and be a part of the University of Arizona Athletic Department is a big deal for them and it's certainly been a big deal for us."
Svorinic will graduate from the University of Arizona with a degree in political science and hopes to go to law school after graduation.
