KAILUA KONA, Hi. -- The Arizona women's golf team came back from three shots down to win the Pac-12 Preview on Wednesday. Sophomore
Yu-Sang Hou shot an even-par 73 to clinch a share of the individual title at 6-under.
The Wildcats started the day at even-par, three shots behind Cal. The Cats were eight shots down at one point on the back nine, but several crucial birdies coming down the stretch closed the gap for Arizona.
Senior
Bianca Pagdanganan sparked the comeback for the Wildcats. Pagdanganan, who struggled her way to an 81 on the first day of the tournament, birdied seven holes on the final day and posted a 5-under 68, her best round of the season. Pagdanganan teed off on the tenth hole and was only 1-under through her first 12 holes, but birdied four of her last six to finish the day. Pagdanganan finished the week at 3-over and in a tie for 25th.
Hou hovered around the top of the leaderboard all week, and controlled the outright lead for most of the day until she eventually settled into a tie for first at 6-under. This is the first win of Hou's collegiate career. Hou's outstanding performance comes on the heels of a second place finish last week at East Lake.
Junior
Sandra Nordaas birdied her last hole of the day to post another even-par round of 73 and put the Cats one stroke ahead of Cal. Nordaas finished in a tie for 18th at 1-over. Senior
Haley Moore finished the tournament with 14 birdies, second most in the field. She shot a final-round 76 (+3) to finish the week in a tie for 36th. Freshman
Ya Chun Chang shot a 77 (+4) to finish at 9-over and in a tie for 41st.
"I'm super proud of our women to come back so strong after a tough loss last week at East Lake," said head coach
Laura Ianello. "They showed so much heart this week. They played so well, so confident today. I'm so proud of
Yu-Sang Hou having her first collegiate win. Along with that,
Bianca Pagdanganan came up huge for us. Big senior move, birdieing four of her last six holes, just stellar. As well as
Sandra Nordaas coming up huge again, just like she did for us in Chicago. Just overall great team effort. Really proud of them to win the Pac-12 Preview against such fantastic teams in our conference. Great way to end our fall season and looking forward to the offseason where we can continue to keep working, get better, and set new goals. Just really proud of the effort this week."
The Wildcats finished ahead of three top-ten teams this week to claim their first win of the fall season. The Wildcats will be back in action in 2019, when the spring season begins.
