TUCSON, Ariz. – Baseball will return to Hi Corbett Field on Saturday for a one-day cameo.
The Arizona Wildcats will host BYU in a 24-inning fall exhibition game starting at 9 a.m. It will mark Arizona's second and final fall exhibition, after defeating Cal State Fullerton 17-13 in 22 innings last month in Mesa.
Gates for Saturday's game at Hi Corbett will open at 8 a.m., with first pitch slated for 9. Concessions will be open from 10 a.m., to 5 p.m. Tickets are free for season-ticket holders and fans under the age of 12. It is $5 for everyone else.
The Wildcats will host the Cougars on Saturday, before turning their attention to the final week of fall practice. Coach
Jay Johnson and the Cats will host their annual Wild vs. Cats Draft on Monday, and then have their three-game Wild vs. Cats World Series on Nov. 15-17 at Hi Corbett.
The World Series will conclude official team practice for the fall for the Wildcats.
Arizona returns several key players from last year's 34-22 team, including juniors
Nick Quintana,
Cameron Cannon and
Matt Fraizer in the field. Also back is sophomore infielder
Jacob Blas. On the mound, Arizona saw strong performances from several returning pitchers against Cal State Fullerton, including senior
Avery Weems, juniors
Randy Labaut and
Preston Price and sophomores
Zach Sherman and
Jonathan Guardado.
The Wildcats also welcome in several new players to this year's team, which features 17 freshmen. Freshmen hitters Austin Wells, Branden Boissiere, Dayton Dooney and Ryan Holgate combined to go 13 for 27 with three home runs against Cal State Fullerton.
Arizona will officially open its 2019 spring season on Feb. 15 with a four-game home series against Massachusetts-Lowell. The Wildcats' full 2019 schedule is expected to be released in the next month.
