TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's soccer team beat Denver by a score of 3-0 on Friday Night at Mulcahy Stadium. Goals were all scored in the second half, by Kennedy Kieneker, Amanda Porter and Kelcey Cavarra. This victory advances the Cats to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they will play the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tenn.
 
The Cats were held scoreless in the first half but jumped out of the gate in the second half, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. Kieneker found the net first for the Cats, and Porter followed up with a beautiful free kick goal just outside the 18-yard box. Kelcey Cavarra converted on a penalty kick to seal the deal for Arizona.
 
Arizona controlled the pace of play throughout the game, and outshot Denver 17-5. Lainey Burdett made two phenomenal second half saves and Hallie Pearson made an incredible defensive play to keep the Pioneers off the scoresheet.

Key Plays

53' - GOAL! Jill Aguilera sent in the cross and Kennedy Kieneker was there to poke it past the keeper.

58' - GOAL! Porter with an absolute rocket of a free kick made it a two-goal lead for the Cats.

74' - GOAL! Cavarra converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 Arizona.

Play-by-Play

5' - Iyana Zimmerman's shot proved troublesome for the Denver keeper, but the Cats couldn't capitalize on the rebound.

10' - Zimmerman made a nice move and ripped one from distance, but the keeper did better with this one.

18' - The Wildcat defense was a brick wall early on, as Denver was still without a shot.
 
23' - Jada Talley got past the keeper but just didn't have the angle to get a shot off on goal.

29' - Nearly a golden opportunity for the Cats as Aguilera played one into Talley, but Talley just couldn't quite get her foot on it.

34' - Denver slid a through ball past the Arizona defense for their best chance of the night, but the Wildcats were able to recover and block the shot.

41' - Pearson made a phenomenal defensive play in front of an open net to keep this one scoreless.
 
45' - We ended the first half all tied up at zero.

48' - Talley plaed a wonderful ball into the middle of the box to a streaking Amanda Porter, but Porter lifted the shot just over the crossbar.

50' - What a save from Burdett! She kept Denver off the scoresheet with a brilliant sliding save.

65' - Another great save from Burdett preserved the two-goal lead.

70' - Brynn Moga flew into the box and connected on a cross, but the Denver keeper was able to fall on it.

90' - The Cats advanced to the second round with a 3-0 win.
