Arizona Opens 2019 Season with Annual GymCat Showcase

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics kicked off their 2019 season with the annual GymCat Showcase.
Just over 700 fans supported the GymCats at the Showcase, where the team performed their routines for the first time this season for fans in McKale Center.
"It's nice to get in McKale in front of fans and do some competitive routines because you can't duplicate that in practice," said head coach John Court. "It was a good milestone to achieve this season and the coaching staff is happy with the team's performance."
The GymCats competed on all four events, with Maddi Leydin showing off a routine on every event. This event was the first time that Arizona's freshmen, Kennedi Davis, Asia Rose DuVernay, MacKinzie Kane, and Alivia Kendrick were able to experience the energy in McKale Center and see the fans.
"Today went really well for us and it was a great step in our season," said junior Maddi Leydin. "It was great to get the team out on the floor and do their routines in McKale. We are really excited to compete again in one month!"
The GymCat fans were excited to see seniors Haylie Hendrickson and Danielle Spencer return to the floor for their last Showcase. The two seniors have proven to be strong competitors for the Cats, and the team and coaches are looking forward to watching them compete for their final season.
"This being my last Showcase was really bittersweet," said senior Haylie Hendrickson. "I put everything I have out on the floor and spent time with all of my teammates. It makes me super excited for this season because I saw all of the potential that this team has today."
The Cats will travel to Michigan to officially open their 2019 season against Central Michigan, Illinois, and Bridgeport on January 6th.
