TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats (10-1) won their ninth-straight and their final non-conference game of the season on Friday night against Northern Arizona (4-5) by a score of 71-47.
Cate Reese led the way with 21 points while
Aari McDonald scored 20.
To go along with her game-high 21 points, Reese also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots. McDonald also finished the game with eight rebounds and had three steals as well.
Dominique McBryde pitched in 12 points, all in the first half.
As a team, Arizona forced 22 turnovers and blocked a season-high 10 shots.
Sam Thomas and Reese both had four while McBryde swatted away a pair. The Wildcats have forced at least 20 turnovers in three of their last four games.
The first quarter was tightly contested as Arizona was leading the Lumberjacks 17-11 at the end of one, but the Wildcats would turn it on in the second on the back of a 15-2 start and would take a 36-17 lead into halftime. Arizona would hold NAU to 26% shooting in the first half while blocking seven shots and making six steals.
Arizona tightened up on defense even more in the third quarter, forcing six turnovers in the first six minutes of the quarter and used a 14-1 run to get the lead up to 30 at one point. NAU would finish strong, outscoring the Wildcats 17-8 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't nearly enough as Arizona was able to win their 10th game of the season with ease.
With that, the Cats will take a few days off for the holidays and will return to prepare for the first conference game of the season against Arizona State on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. MST.
