Courtney Cowles is a junior from Canton, Connecticut. As a sophomore, Cowles competed in 9 out of 11 meets. She earned career highs of 9.925 on beam and 9.825 on vault against Arkansas. Cowles' career high on beam against Arkansas helped her team to set a new school record for beam. She was also named Pac-12 All-Academic First Team during her sophomore year.
How old were you when you started gymnastics?
I was three years old when I started gymnastics.
What is your favorite event and why?
My favorite event is floor because I can really get into my dance, express myself, and have a good time.
Favorite motivational quote?
"Strength grows in the moments when you think you can't go on but you keep going anyway."
What is fun and special about Arizona gymnastics?
Competing as an Arizona gymnast in McKale is unlike anything else, the amount of support and energy flowing through the team and the crowd is amazing.
What is your dream job after college?
After college, I want direct films internationally.
What motivates you?
All the young gymnasts who look up to Arizona Gymnastics and support us, seeing and hearing from them in the community and at meets means the world to me and makes me want to work that much harder.
What advice do you have for the underclassmen?
Use your time here to broaden your horizons, try new things, learn from your mistakes, and meet new people!
What is a hobby you have outside of gymnastics?
I love skateboarding around campus especially when it's beautiful outside, it's very relaxing.
What are you looking forward to most about this season?
I'm looking forward to putting everything we have been working so hard out on the competition floor and having a fun time with my team at every meet.
What is your favorite GymCat memory thus far?
My favorite GymCat memory is being a part of the beam team that set a school record when we were at Arkansas (and then John getting us Cold Stone ice cream after).
