Cats Welcome Wolverines for Thursday Night Contest

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Coming off a road victory at Connecticut, the Arizona Wildcats are set to return to McKale Center on Thursday night to host Utah Valley. The Cats are 6-2 on the season and Utah Valley will enter at 6-3. Tip-off time is set for 7:06 p.m., MST and will be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Network. J.B. Long and Steve Lavin will have the call.

  • The Arizona Wildcats, riding a 51-game nonconference home winning streak, will welcome Utah Valley to McKale Center Thursday night for the first time since 2014. 
  • Arizona is 86-3 in its last 89 games at McKale Center and is 55-10 in December under coach Sean Miller. The three home losses since the start of the 2013-14 season are the fewest of any team nationally.
  • Arizona freshman guard Brandon Williams is shooting .878 from the free throw line, having connected on 36 of 41 attempts. He leads all Power 5 freshmen with 40 or more attempts in free throw percentage. He trails just North Alabama freshman Jamari Blackmon among all freshmen. 
  • Wildcats redshirt junior Chase Jeter has taken 13 charges in eight games this season, including two last game versus UConn. As a team, Arizona has taken 25 charges this season. 
  • Utah Valley coach Mark Pope played two games at McKale Center in 1992 and 1993 as a member of the Washington Huskies. Pope scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in an 85-51 loss to Arizona in 1992. In 1993, he had nine points and six rebounds in a 93-76 loss. 
  • Sophomore guard Brandon Randolph is seventh in the Pac-12 averaging 17.3 points per game. He has scored in double figures in each of the first eight games this season. He's one of eight players in the conference to have scored in double figures in each of his team's games this season. 
  • The Wildcats lead the Pac-12 Conference in turnover margin with a +4.1 advantage. 
  • Arizona has started 6-2 or better in eight of Sean Miller's 10 seasons, including this year. 
  • Arizona's bench has scored 71 points over the past two games with reserve Dylan Smith posting back-to-back double figure scoring games. 
FREE THROW SUCCESS
Through eight games this season, Arizona is shooting 76 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats have converted 142 of 187 attempts and rank second in the Pac-12 behind Oregon. Nationally, Arizona is 31st in free throw percentage. Guards Brandon Williams and Brandon Randolph have led the way at the line. Combined, the two guards are 70 of 78 (90 percent). Randolph is 34 for 37 (.919), which is the best mark of any Pac-12 player with 30 or more attempts. Williams is 36 for 41, which is the second-best mark nationally by a freshman with 40 or more attempts. Jamari Blackmon from North Alabama leads the way, having hit 47 of 52 (.904). Williams' .878 mark is the best by a Power 5 freshman with 40 or more attempts. 

51 STRAIGHT
Arizona's win over Georgia Southern last month marked 51 straight non-conference home wins for the Wildcats. Arizona's last non-conference home loss came in 2011 to San Diego State when the Aztecs outlasted Arizona 61-57. A little more than a week later, Arizona beat Northern Arizona 53-39 and hasn't looked back since. Arizona beat Clemson, Oakland and Bryant in non-conference play to close out pre-conference play in 2011. The Wildcats went 7-0 in home non-conference games last season, notching wins over Northern Arizona, NCAA Tournament darlings UMBC, CSU Bakersfield, Long Beach State, Alabama, North Dakota State and Connecticut. The Wildcats extended their winning streak to 51 games Thursday against Georgia Southern. Arizona will play four more home non-conference games against Utah Valley, Baylor, Montana and UC-Davis. 

JETER STARTS STRONG
Chase Jeter arrived at Arizona prior to the 2017-18 season after transferring from Duke, but had to sit out the season per NCAA rules. In his first eight games as a Wildcat, Jeter has been a presence in the paint and a threat down low. Jeter is averaging 12.6 points per game and 7.5 rebounds a contest with three double-doubles. He's scored in double figures in seven of the eight games. He registered a career-high 18 points against Georgia Southern and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with it.  In the first game of the Maui Invitational, Jeter had a career-high 12 rebounds to go with 10 points. He finished the tournament with a 14-point outing against Auburn. Jeter also played 30 or more minutes twice in Maui against Iowa State and Auburn, marking the first two times in his career (including Duke) he played 30 or more minutes.  Sunday at UConn, Jeter had 14 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes before fouling out. Jeter is 38 for 57 from the field this year, shooting 67 percent.

RANDOLPH SHINES EARLY
Sophomore Brandon Randolph has started his sophomore season in style. Randolph has scored in double figures in all eight games this season and is averaging 17.3 points per game. As a freshman last season, Randolph played in 31 games, drawing four starting assignments. He averaged 3.7 points per game, scoring a total of 116 points. In seven games this year, he's already surpassed that total, having scored 138 points. He has also surpassed his rebounding total as a freshman. He had 26 rebounds last season and already has 27 this year. Randolph is the first Arizona guard to score in double figures in each of the first eight games of the season since Gabe York in 2016. 

LEE CRASHES THE GLASS
In seven games played this season, Ira Lee has grabbed six or more rebounds four times. In his 27 games last season as a freshman, Lee grabbed six or more boards just twice all season. Lee had a career-high eight rebounds in the season opener versus Cal Poly. He had seven rebounds the next time out against UTEP and had six rebounds in 17 minutes against Gonzaga. Lee also tied a season-high with seven points against Gonzaga. He also had seven points against UTEP. Lee is averaging 16.8 minutes per game after playing 10.2 minutes per game last year. 

GOLD STANDARD AWARDS    
In his 10th season at Arizona, Coach Sean Miller has started a new tradition within his program. After each game, Miller awards seven different honors to his team for various aspects of the game. The awards recognize players who are shining in areas that may not always show up in box scores or stand out to fans. A full list of winners from the UConn game are below:
