Cats Hit Six Homers in Saturday Sweep

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona swept Saturday's action at the Kajikawa Classic, defeating UC Davis 6-1 in the early game before downing Fresno State 13-1 in five innings in game 2. The sweep brought the Wildcats to 3-1 on the young season. Arizona closes out the event on Sunday at 2 p.m. MST vs. New Mexico.

Game 1: #7 Arizona 6, UC Davis 1

The Wildcats hit three home runs, helping UA overcome 13 runners left on base, while Alyssa Denham tossed her first complete game in a Wildcat uniform, allowing one run on eight hits and Arizona defeated UC Davis 6-1 at the Tempe Sports Complex.

Reyna Carranco, Dejah Mulipola and Aleah Craighton hit home runs for UA in the game.

The Cats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, plating a run in the first and three in the second, but UA's offense went quiet until Mulipola and Craighton hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth.

UA's 13 runners left on base were its most since stranding 15 vs. Drake (2/15/17).

Dejah Mulipola gave the Cats the early lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but it would be all for Arizona, which left the bases loaded in the inning.

In the second, a walk and an error put two on for Reyna Carranco, who hit a three-run home run, matching her home run total from a season ago.

After UC Davis scratched across a run in the fifth, Mulipola and Craighton's back-to-back blasts gave UA the final five-run cushion.

Game 2: #7 Arizona 13, Fresno State 1 (5)

Jessie Harper homered twice, two of Arizona's six extra base hits in the game, as the Cats overwhelmed Fresno State with a 13-1, five-inning victory in Saturday's nightcap.

Harper hit two bombs and Alyssa Palomino hit another as the Cats used an offensive onslaught to mercy the Bulldogs.

Taylor McQuillin rebounded from her loss Friday night to Oklahoma State with five strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits. The junior struck out eight in the victory.

Reyna Carranco, Harper, Dejah Mulipola and Jenna Kean all had two hits in the contest. Carranco and Mulipola had two RBI apiece.

Arizona jumped on Fresno State early, using a Harper homer and and Alyssa Palomino RBI to take a 3-0 lead in the first.

In the second, UA scored five runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run Palomino homer. Carranco, Mulipola and Craighton had RBI as well in the inning.

The Cats added one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game.
