IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The third match in two days ended in a 4-1 loss for the Wildcats as they drop to 6-4 on the 2018 season.
The Iowa Hawkeyes cruised through the doubles session, winning the first two matches by scores of 6-2 and 7-6(1). The third doubles match went unfinished.
Freshman Piotr Smietana continued the Hawkeye success with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Arizona freshman
Aaro Pollanen. Fellow Iowa freshman Joe Tyler followed that up with a 7-5, 6-4 win over senior
Trent Botha (UA). Redshirt sophomore Kareem Allaf secured the match for Iowa with a three-set victory over Arizona junior
Jonas Maier (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
The sole Arizona point came from
Alejandro Reguant, who won his 7
th match in a row by beating Iowa freshman Will Davies 6-3, 6-1.
"We are moving in the right direction as a team," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "It will be all the more rewarding when it comes together and we play a complete match as a team, we are getting close."
The Wildcats will return home next weekend when they face Northern Arizona and Nebraska.
