Baseball to Honor Kindall Throughout 2018 Season

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats will honor legendary coach Jerry Kindall in various ways throughout the 2018 season.

Kindall, who passed away in December at the age of 82, led the Wildcats as head coach for 24 seasons, capturing three national championships and winning 860 games.

As the 2018 season opens Friday night, the Wildcats will honor Kindall's legacy throughout the entirety of the season. Arizona players, coaches and staff will wear a black No. 9 patch on the left sleeve of their jerseys. The Wildcats will also display a "JK" sticker on the back of their batting helmets.

"Arizona Baseball is a special program because of Coach Kindall," current coach Jay Johnson said. "Not only is coach one of the elite coaches in the history of college baseball, he was a Hall of Fame person, and set the bar in terms of class, character and integrity. We will do everything possible to honor Coach in how we represent Arizona Baseball both on and off the field."

Additionally, a large No. 9 sign that replicates the patch on the jersey will hang at Hi Corbett Field above the Wall of Intimidation in right-center field for the 2018 campaign, in memoriam of Kindall.

A loyal season-ticket holder for several years after his coaching career, Kindall's seat at Hi Corbett has been painted red with the No. 9 on it to commemorate where Kindall sat to watch his beloved Wildcats. The seat will remain empty and painted red for the 2018 season. Pictures of Kindall and various memorabilia will be displayed inside a glass case in the Hi Corbett concourse near the front entrance.

There will be a moment of silence to remember Kindall prior to the start of Friday night's season opener versus Bryant.

Kindall's life and career as the Arizona coach will be celebrated further on April 21 versus Stanford when several members of Kindall's family will return to Hi Corbett to honor the late coach.
