GymCats Fall to Cal on their First Pac-12 Road Meet

BERKELEY, Calif – No. 19 Arizona Gymnastics traveled for their second away meet of the season, and their first road Pac-12 matchup, against No. 31 Cal. The Cats lost with a final score of 194.425 to Cal's 195.950, but Madison Cindric took home the first place title in both the All-Around and the beam competitions.
"It was a disappointing day," said head coach John Court. "We have to do better, not just on one event, but on all events. This week we're going to go into the gym and try and improve from today's mistakes."
Cats Opened the Meet on Bars:
Arizona opened the completion on the uneven bars, earning a total of 48.725. The event started with senior Victoria Ortiz scoring a 9.750, followed by a 9.675 from Maddi Leydin, a 9.725 from Madison Cindric and 9.750's from Haylie Hendrickson, Danielle Spencer, and Christina Berg.
The Cats couldn't quite get a 49.000 on the other three events either, earning a 48.850 on vault, a 47.950 on beam, and a 48.900 on floor.
"Today was a harsh learning lesson for us," said associate head coach, David McCreary. "We're going to work hard to try and turn it around for our home meet and senior night next Sunday."
Cindric Shines on Vault:
Senior Madison Cindric was fourth in the vault lineup when she scored a new season and career high of 9.875. This is Cindric's fourth score of 9.800 or higher this season, previously scoring a 9.800 at home against Denver, a 9.825 away against Iowa State, and a 9.800 at home against Utah.
Cindric followed fellow GymCats Maddi Leydin, who scored a 9.775, Courtney Cowles, who scored a 9.600, and Lauryn Mattson, who scored a 9.750. The Cats finished with a 48.850 on vault.
Cindric and Leydin Compete in the All-Around:
For the fifth week in a row, senior Madison Cindric competed in the all-around. Cindric took home first place with a score of 39.225, earning a 9.875 on vault, a 9.725 on bars, a 9.875 on beam, and a 9.750 on floor.
Arizona Freshman Make Their 2018 Debuts:
Freshman Adra Parks saw competition for the first time this season. Parks anchored for the Cats on floor, earning a new season and career high of 9.825, a great score for a collegiate debut.
