BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Arizona Wildcats trip to Bloomington ended in a 5-2 defeat for the Cats.
The Hoosiers began the day by taking the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win by juniors Antonio Cembellin and Afonso Salgado over freshman
Filip Malbasic and sophomore
Alejandro Reguant of Arizona. Indiana also got a win from the sophomore duo of Payam Ahmadi and Bennett Crane against freshman
Carlos Hassey and senior
Trent Botha (6-1). The other doubles match went unfinished.
Filip Malbasic got his team-leading sixth win in singles play, and
Alejandro Reguant also added a win, but it was not enough to prevent the Wildcats from dropping to 5-2 on the season.
"I think both of our teams were evenly matched, but they were better when it came to competitiveness and hustle," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "We will need to improve before next week's trip to Iowa and make some adjustments in practice."
The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-2 all time versus the Hoosiers. Arizona will travel to Iowa next weekend where they will have three matches in two days.
