Cats Hit Three Home Runs and Sweep No. 22 Cal

TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 11 Arizona scored the final seven runs of the game, erasing an early 3-0 California lead, to defeat the 22nd-ranked Golden Bears and sweep the three-game series at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Alyssa Denham was nearly perfect in relief; she pitched the final 6.1 innings of the game and faced the minimum 19 hitters, allowing one single, a runner that would be promptly doubled off first. Denham struck out three and earned the victory to improve to 5-1 on the season.

UA's offense put up seven runs on 11 hits, including three home runs in the contest. Aleah Craighton, Alyssa Palomino and Jessie Harper all hit home runs in the contest. Harper and Palomino tied their season highs with three hits apiece in the game.

The sweep brought Arizona to 27-6, 6-3 Pac-12. UA has now swept both of its home conference series this season. Cal fell to 24-11, 1-8 Pac-12.

Arizona will face No. 5 Oregon next week in Eugene.

Cal jumped on Bowen for three runs in the first six batters, chasing her in favor of Denham.

An error and a single put the first two Wildcats aboard in the bottom of the first. Jessie Harper grounded into a double play, but scored the run from third to cut into the Cal lead.

Craighton led off the bottom of the second with a homer over the batter's eye. Malia Martinez followed with a walk and moved to second on Tamara Statman's sacrifice bunt. Carli Campbell singled home Martinez to tie the game.

Palomino led off the bottom of the third with an opposite-field homer to break the tie and give the Cats. Harper followed with a double and scored on a Malia Martinez RBI single. Statman followed with an RBI single to left to give the Cats a 6-3 lead after 3.

Harper hit UA's third leadoff home run of the game, going the opposite way to lead off the bottom of the fifth and put the Cats on top 7-3.

Up next: Arizona returns to action next weekend in Eugene, Oregon, where they'll meet the Ducks for a three-game series, Friday-Sunday.
