On-Campus Recognition Planned for Site of Sancet Stadium

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Athletics will recognize the on-campus site of Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium with a monument honoring the two former Arizona Baseball coaching legends.

The site will serve as the future home of Arizona's Indoor Sports Center, with construction on the project set to begin this month, with a scheduled completion date in December. A recognition will honor the former Arizona Baseball stadium at the planned site at a future date. Plans on the design of the recognition are still being finalized.

Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium served as the home of Arizona Baseball from 1967 to 2011. It was originally named Wildcat Field. However, the park's name was changed to Frank Sancet Field during Arizona's 1986 National Championship Season. In 2004, the name was changed again to Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium and remained Arizona Baseball's home until it moved to Hi Corbett Field in 2012.

Arizona experienced extreme success at Kindall Field at Sancet Stadium, posting a winning percentage of .703, with a total record of 895-376-3. The stadium hosted four NCAA Regionals.

Sancet was the coach of Arizona from 1950 to 1972. He took the Wildcats to nine College World Series appearances and nine NCAA Regional Championships. Sancet compiled a record of 831-283-8 and was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame posthumously in 2012.

Following Sancet's final season in 1972, Kindall took over the program, and remained in charge until 1996. Kindall won National Championships in 1976, 1980 and 1986 and had a 860-579-7 record while serving as the head coach of Arizona. He was elected into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
