Denham Strikes Out a Career-High 10 in Wednesday Win

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Denham struck out a career-high 10 batters and limited visiting New Mexico to just one unearned run on five hits, helping the 10th-ranked Wildcats defeat the Lobos, 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Ivy Davis hit her third home run in her last seven games, a two-run homer in the second inning, UA's only extra-base hit on the night. Aleah Craighton plated UA's third run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Denham improved to 8-3 on the season with the victory. The sophomore has allowed just one earned run over her last appearances; she is 3-0 with three complete-game victories in the last eight days.

Wednesday's victory was the final midweek contest of the season for Arizona (32-13), which will now get ready to face Oregon State in a three-game series beginning Friday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

In the bottom of the second, Jensen Main retired the first two Wildcats before an error extended the inning for Arizona. Ivy Davis cashed in on the opportunity, crushing her third homer of the season to center field, giving UA a 2-0 lead after two innings.

In the top of the fifth, a walk and a single put runners at first and second for the Lobos before a Wildcat error plated a run and put runners at the corners with one out. Denham was able to limit the damage to the single unearned run and keep Arizona on top after 4.5.

Aleah Craighton gave UA some insurance in the bottom of the sixth when she singled with two out to score Alyssa Palomino to put the Cats on top 3-1.
