TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 10 Arizona defeated Oregon State, 6-2, on Saturday evening at Hillenbrand Stadium to clinch the three-game series. Arizona, a winner of five straight, will go for the sweep on Sunday at noon.
Jessie Harper and
Aleah Craighton each had two hits, including a a home run in the game. Harper's sixth-inning blast was her 14th of the year while Craighton's second-inning homer was her eighth and second in as many games.
Alyssa Denham (9-3) picked up the victory for the Wildcats. She allowed two runs on six hits in five innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Taylor McQuillin pitched the final two innings, allowing just one Beaver baserunner; McQuillin, who earned her third save of the year, fanned three of the seven batters she faced.
Arizona (34-13, 10-10 Pac-12) plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of throwing errors in the frame.
In the second, Oregon State (26-21, 7-10 Pac-12) used two singles and a walk to load the bases with no one out. A single and a hit-batsmen brought in a pair of runs to give Oregon State the lead.
Arizona responded with a three-spot in the bottom half.
Dejah Mulipola led off the frame with a walk and trotted home on Craighton's second home run in as many games. Two walks and
Reyna Carranco single later, UA loaded the bases for
Jessie Harper, who plated a run with an infield single to put UA up 4-2.
In the bottom of the third, Craighton doubled and
Carli Campbell singled to put runners on the corners for
Jenna Kean, who singled to give UA a 5-2 lead after three innings.
Harper insured the lead with an opposite-field home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Wildcats to 6-2 advantage.
