Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona track and field program open up the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional rankings with top-five honors on both the men and women's side.
The men's team ranks first in west in the opening week of the USTFCCA's poll. The women's squad checks in at fifth place in this week's rankings.
Leading the men to the top spot are
Umajesty Williams,
Zakee Washington, and
Bryant O'Georgia. Williams set a mark of 46.16 in the 400-meter dash to set an Arizona freshman record. Williams' mark is good for No. 8 on the NCAA list. Washington clocked a time of 46.45 in the 400-meter dash to finish as the second collegian in the Aztec Invitational. Washington's mark is the No. 13 time on the NCAA list. O'Georgia cleared 2.22m in the high jump at the Aztec Invitational to win the event, set a new PR, tie for fifth on Arizona's all time list, win Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors, and holds the No. 7 mark in the NCAA.
Leading the women to a fifth place ranking in week one are
Karolina Pahlitzsch,
Tatum Waggoner, and
Karla Teran. Pahlitzsch clocked a time of 2:08.27 at the Willie Williams Classic to win the competition, set the No. 36 mark in the NCAA, win Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, and set a new PR. Waggoner ran a time of 53.17 in the 400-meter dash to win the event at the Willie Williams Classic and set the No. 18 mark on the NCAA list. Teran cleared 1.75m at the Stanford Invitational to set the No. 24 mark in the NCAA, and owns a share of the top mark in the Pac-12 Conference.
