Iowa City, Iowa. – The University of Arizona track and field program wrapped up the Larry Wiezcorek Invitational on Saturday, January 19th. The Cats finished in the top five in 26 events throughout the weekend. Leading the Cats on the final day of competition was junior
Jennie Baragar-Petrash, who ran a 20.24 second PR in the 3K.
Bargar-Petrash PRs, Villarreal Runs 4-Minute Mile
Baragar-Petrash finished third in the ladies premier 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:34.50 to set a new PR. This would mark the second-consecutive year she has PRed in the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
Carlos Villarreal clocked a time of 4:00.36 in the Larry Wieczorek Mile to finish second. Villarreal's mark is good for No. 4 on the NCAA list.
Harvey's Hurdlers
Tiana Bonds and
April Sutton competed in the premier 60-meter hurdles on Saturday. Bonds clocked a time of 8.55 in to finish fifth and Sutton ran a time of 8.68 to finish eighth. The duo advanced to the finals with those times. Bonds matched her season's best time of 8.51 to finish fourth in the finals and Sutton ran a time of 8.52 to finish fifth and set a new PR.
4x400 Squad Rises Up
The ladies 4x400-meter relay team of
Neysia Howard,
Karolina Pahlitzsch,
Tatum Waggoner and
Diana Gajda clocked a time of 3:37.37 to finish as the top collegiate team in the premier 4x400-meter relay contest. The ladies' mark is good for the No 10 mark on the NCAA list.
Mr. Smith
Freshman
James Smith finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.58. He finished as the top freshman in the event.
Up next, the Cats will travel to Seattle, Wash. and Lubbock, Texas to compete in the UW Invitational and the Texas Tech Invitational on January 25th & 26th.
