SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Jennie Baragar-Petrash,
Carlos Villarreal and
Madison Christopher were Arizona's top finishers at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational on Friday.
In the women's Blue Division 5k race, the Wildcats placed three in the top 100. Baragar-Petrash finished in 26th, followed by Keelah Barger in 78th and Kayla Young in 86th. The women took 16th out of the 24 teams that competed.
Brigid Hanley and Madison Christopher were Arizona's only runners in the women's open 5k race. Christopher took 53rd followed by Hanley in 73rd.
On the men's side, Villarreal claimed the Wildcats' only top 100 spot in their ultimate 22nd place finish.
"I am really pleased with the women and their team performance," said head cross country coach
James Li. "This was a race where many teams were ranked in the top 30 and we were right there with them. On the men's side, I'm happy with Carlos for his first race of the season. Overall, it was a really good competition and a great day of cross country."
The Arizona Wildcats will be back in action in two weeks on October 19 as they will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Pre-NCAA Cross Country Invitational.
