Wildcats Finish their Second Big 12 Championships

Lawrence, Kansas – Arizona Cross Country competed in their second-ever Big 12 Championships on Friday morning at Kansas' Rick Rock Farm. A pair of freshmen led the way for the Wildcats, with Evans Tanui finishing first for the team on the men's side and Praise Chepkemboi finishing first for the team on the women's side. 

Freshman Evans Tanui guided the way for the Arizona Men as he has all season, placing 28th overall in the 8k with a time of 23:48.0. Lawi Ngetich finished second for the Wildcats with a time of 24:29.3, and Michael Urbanski placed third for the team with a time of 24:39.5. Freshmen Bryson Nielsen and Sophmore Max Liao were the team's fourth and fifth runners.

Freshman Praise Chepkemboi was the top finisher for the Arizona Women in the 6k, clocking a time of 21:37.2. She was followed by fellow freshman Amelia North, who ran a time of 22:24.5. Kara Mickleson was the team's third runner. She was followed by Laina Friedmann and Hailey Puklin to round out the team's scoring five. 

Overall, the Arizona Men placed eighth with a team score of 214 points. The Arizona Women finished 15th with a team score of 407 points. The meet was streamed on ESPN+.
