Talking Tennis with Nick Lagaev

Tucson, Ariz. - Nick Lagaev is a freshman from Vaughn, Ontario, Canada and is playing his first season with the Arizona Wildcats. He was the No. 2 prospect out of Canada and had an ITF Ranking of 321 with a 13.09 UTR.

After participating in several fall tournaments, Lagaev has accumulated a singles record of 9-6 and a doubles record of 7-5. He has won seven of his last ten matches going into the spring season.

Arizonawildcats.com sat down with Lagaev to ask about his first year here and what his expectations are going forward.

Q: What made you choose Arizona?
A: The coaches, I find like Clancy was a major drive for me to commit here. I liked his vision, I liked his energy and I thought he could make me a better player. That's ultimately why I chose Arizona.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in your first year of college?
A: Just learning as much as I can. I feel like, especially my first year, everything is new and I'm trying to soak in everything I can. It's just learning and improving every day and trying to become the best player I can be for my freshman year.

Q: What is your favorite part about the University of Arizona so far?
A: There's nothing I really don't like. Practices are always fun, energy is always high. School is very fun. We have a good basketball team so it's very fun to go out with my friends and watch the basketball game. The whole tradition of sports here has been really fun for me.

Q: How does it feel going into your first spring season as a Wildcat?
A: Definitely excited. I've been working all throughout fall with all the coaches and the whole team so I think it'll be a good opportunity for all of us to play in the spring. I think that especially last year I think we did well and there's lots of room for improvement so I feel like we can be better as a team and I'm excited to be a part of it.
