Cats Head Into Final Round of St. Mary's Invitational in 2nd

Pebble Beach, Calif. — The Arizona Wildcats Men's Golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard on the second day of play at the St. Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club. They pushed past BYU, who started the day two strokes ahead of them. The Cats are now at 15-under par, behind only Colorado State who sits at 21-under.
Senior Brad Reeves has maintained his tied for second spot. He shot a round of 69 and has moved to eight-under par. Reeves sunk five birdies for the day. He opened with a career-low round of 65 on Monday. He is one shot off the lead.
Junior Trevor Werbylo surged from his tied for 41st spot he held going into the day up to being tied for ninth place. Werbylo shot a 67 in his second round. His performance included four birdies and two eagles. He now sits at three-under par. Werbylo had a stretch where he was six-under in six holes on the final three holes of the back nine and the first three of the front. He started on No. 10.
Senior Briggs Duce leaped from his tied for 19th spot at the beginning of the day to the tied for fifth spot on the leaderboard. Duce shot a 68 during the round and enters the third round at four-under par. Duce finished the round with five birdies.
Senior David Laskin sunk the most birdies for the Cats today, scoring a total of six, three on the first nine holes and three on the second. Laskin is even par entering the third day of play. He is tied for 29th place.
Junior Drake Mendenhall put up two birdies for the Wildcats. He shot a 75 for the day, and is currently tied for 80th place.
Individual player Chase Sienkiewicz put up a score of 69 for the day. He played a bogey-free round with a pair of birdies. Sienkiewicz is tied for fifth place at four-under par.
"Our team did a great job managing the ups and downs of a round on a challenging course," said Head Coach Jim Anderson. "Our experience is really helping us on the course and we will do our best to give ourselves opportunities to make birdies again tomorrow. I think we will putt well tomorrow because we have adjusted to the greens. Tomorrow, we will make any necessary adjustments if the game plan needs to change. Brad was once again rock solid, and Trevor's round was highlighted by two eagles, both of which were putts made inside of 12 feet. Briggs did great and shot another subpar round. The great thing about this team is that I don't think anyone is completely satisfied with how they played. Having a chance to win is all you ever want in golf. We will be ready for a great finish to the fall season tomorrow."
